The Opening of Fashion Week

When Fashion Week kicks off on September 7, New York will once again turn into a maelstrom of runway shows, demonstrating the city’s creative dominance.

Yet, there is always calm just before the storm, and as has become tradition, it is at this moment that the industry’s most notable gather for the annual Couture Council luncheon, benefiting The Museum at FIT, at which an iconic designer receives the Couture Council Artistry of Fashion Award. This year’s honoree is Albert Kriemler, creative director of the Swiss fashion house Akris.

Kriemler has earned recognition and respect for his commitment to outstanding craftsmanship and his dedication to creating well-tailored, wearable pieces that blend luxury with functionality. His unique vision has expanded his family’s brand and attracted a powerful clientele, which includes Angelina Jolie, Princess Charlene of Monaco, and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Join in this year’s celebration by using and following #CoutureCouncil across social media. In addition, please take a moment to view the FIT Foundation’s auction of Judith Ripka jewelry. All proceeds of this generous donation by Robert and Jennifer D’Loren will benefit the QVC Scholarship Fund.

The pictures below share memories of past luncheons and celebrate the accomplishments of former honorees.
