Yuniya Kawamura Speaks at Symposium, Writes for Nikkei

Yuniya (Yuni) Kawamura, Social Sciences, was one of the guest speakers at Eastern Exposure: Dress and Textiles in China and Japan Symposium on November 12, organized by Nancy Deihl and Daniel James Cole at New York University. Kawamura also wrote an article in the evening edition of Nikkei, Japan’s largest financial daily, on November 5, on American military-inspired fashion and quoted Emma McClendon, assistant curator of The Museum at FIT (MFIT). McClendon, who organized Uniformity, which is on view at MFIT through November 19, said the history of military-inspired dress dates back to the 19th century, and it has become a fashion staple for street wear today.
