Jean Amato Publishes an Article; Speaks at Two Conferences

Jean Amato, English and Communication Studies, published an article titled “Ideological Mappings of Gendered Bodies, Nations and Spaces in Louis Chu’s 1961 Chinatown Novel, Eat a Bowl of Tea.” It appears in the book Seeing Whole: Toward an Ethics and Ecology of Sight (Cambridge Scholar’s Press), which was edited by Mark Ledbetter and Asbjørn Grønstad.

Amato is also presenting two academic papers. She will present “Yi-Fu Tuan’s Coming Home to China (2007): Physical and Conceptual Ideas of Home through Traveling Bodies, Spaces, Times, and Mixed Geographies” as part of the Mobility and Space in Global Asia panel at the Global Asias 4 biennial conference. The conference, which complements the journal Verge: Studies in Global Asias, will take place March 31–April 1 at Penn State in State College, PA. Also, at the Northeast American Modern Language Association Conference, Amato will present “Maternal Custodians of the Ancestral Home in 1960s Chinese American Fiction” as part of a panel titled “Matrilineal Textual Body: Maternal Bodies in Asian American Lit and Pop Culture as Text.” The conference will be held in Baltimore March 24–26.
