Thursday, July 27 at 6:30 pm, James Matthew Phillips, Fine Arts, will cohost a tour of the exhibition Florine Stettheimer: Painting Poetry at the Jewish Museum. Phillips and fellow abstract painter Yevgeniya Baras will lead a discussion on select works in the survey of the modernist painter, designer, and poet featuring over 50 paintings and drawings.
Besides teaching at FIT, Phillips is a Brooklyn-based painter. Recent solo exhibitions include Comfort Inn at Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects, Yard Sale at Devening Projects and Editions, Chicago, and at Studio d’Arte Raffaelli, Trento, Italy. The New York City Department of Education and the Public Art for Public Schools Program recently commissioned him to install a large-scale mosaic at PS 106. He is a MacDowell Colony Fellow and was an artist in residence at Yaddo in June. Phillips is also a co-founder of TSA New York—a cooperative gallery, performance, and exhibition space.
