Exhibition: Selected Work from 2017 Photography BFA Exhibition at Photoville — Opens

September 13, 2017

Students graduating from the Photography and the Digital Image BFA program will show their work as part of the annual Photoville, a modular venue built from re-purposed shipping containers located in Brooklyn Bridge Plaza that features more than 70 indoor and outdoor exhibitions, as well as panels discussions and workshops.

Photoville will take place September 13–24 in Brooklyn Bridge Plaza, on the corners of Water Street and New Dock Street. It is directly underneath the Brooklyn Bridge in DUMBO and bordered by Jane’s Carousel and St. Ann’s Warehouse. Hours of operation vary by day; please check the Photoville website, photoville.com, for the schedule.

Photography students exhibited their senior thesis projects in a group-curated show on campus in May as part of the annual School of Art and Design Graduating Student Exhibition. Refractions was a collective showcase of individual long-term projects that directly reflect the photographic techniques and styles developed during the students’ years at FIT. Work in the show explored themes that ranged from documentary projects about tattoo artists and scientists studying the ocean to personal explorations that examine ideas of memory, power, and sexuality. The different photographic techniques employed, as well as the myriad themes explored by the students, is a reminder that photography still remains a major medium of expression and perspective.
