FIT has been ranked number six in Fashionista.com’s 2014 list of “The Top 50 Fashion Schools in the World.” This is a substantial jump from its ranking at number nine in 2013. FIT and Parsons The New School for Design are the only U.S. schools in the top ten. Central Saint Martins in London retained the number one spot.

Since Fashionista.com began this ranking, FIT has consistently placed in the top ten in the world. The site issued its first global ranking in 2010, with FIT ranked number five. The site issued only a top 20 U.S. fashion schools list in 2011, at which time FIT was number two. There was no ranking of any kind in 2012.

According to Fashionista.com, the following criteria are considered in making its decisions about the rankings:

  • Annual tuition
