Gregory Dietrich presented “Dahlander in Brooklyn” at the Örebro County Museum in Örebro, Sweden, on August 10, 2015, about Swedish architect Magnus E. Dahlander (1862-1951), who came to Brooklyn in 1888 and subsequently designed rowhouses, townhouses, and apartment buildings in Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights North, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and Stuyvesant Heights between 1890 and 1896. This presentation assessed Dahlander’s work in Brooklyn within the context of local and national design trends during the late 19th century, as well as his identity as part of a larger community of Swedish immigrants living and working in Brooklyn and Manhattan during this time.
