The Master of Arts program in Exhibition Design in the School of Graduate Studies is now called Exhibition and Experience Design. The department’s name change is effective immediately, but the degree’s new title will not take effect until fall 2017. Current Exhibition Design students, accepted under the former degree name, will graduate with that name on their degrees; students entering this fall will graduate with the new degree name.
The new name is intended to bring the program into the current vernacular in the industry, as three-dimensional design has expanded from museum exhibitions to include corporate and retail environments, entertainment and hospitality destinations, signage and wayfinding, and events—a wide range of project types that are now called “experiences.” The name reflects the program’s evolving curriculum and enables the department to remain competitive among exhibition design programs around the world.
