Sexual Assault Awareness Education

April 2017: Prevention Is Possible

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (#SAAM). Join the FIT community for a series of programs as we support this national campaign.

Monday, April 3
The Clothesline Project—Day One
Breezeway, noon–2pm
FIT supports The Clothesline Project, a visual display that bears witness to relationship violence. During the public display, a clothesline is hung with shirts; each shirt is decorated to represent a particular person’s experience, by the survivor themselves or by someone who cares about them. Join us to help educate, document, and raise society’s awareness of the extent of the problem of relationship violence. Create a shirt to help with the healing process of those who have lost a loved one or who are survivors of violence. Shirts will be prominently displayed in the Dubinsky Lobby during the month of April.

Tuesday, April 4
The Clothesline Project—Day Two
Breezeway, noon–2 pm

Beat the Blame Game
Haft Auditorium, Feldman Center, 7 pm
Join us for a dynamic, engaging, and honest conversation about why people commonly engage in “victim blaming.” Brought to you by Catharsis Productions.

Thursday, April 6
The Clothesline Project—Day Three
Breezeway, noon–2 pm

Sexual Assault Awareness Resource Fair
Breezeway, noon–2 pm
Join the FIT community as we take a united stand against sexual assault. Resources and important information will be made available by members of local community agencies and organizations who provide services and assistance to survivors of sexual assault and violence.

Protection and Self-Defense Workshop
Breezeway, noon–3 pm

Learn basic methods of self-protection at this workshop led by George Francisco, associate assistant professor in Political Science and seasoned practitioner of Chinese Hawaiian Kenpo martial arts, along with his team from the Chinese Hawaiian Kenpo Academy.
