FIT in the News – September 13, 2018

WWD.com (August 28) and WWD (August 29) reported that a memorial service will be held in October for Ruth Finley, founder and former publisher of The Fashion Calendar. Finley was recipient of the 2016 President’s Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Four Seasons Magazine (October issue) reported on the collaboration of the FIT/Infor Design and Tech Lab with IBM Research to create a program “that compiles thousands of product images, runway images, and patterns that will be popular with shoppers—all while helping designers keep track of existing styles and avoid duplications.”

Pulsd.com (August 29) listed the Fashion Culture event “Narciso Rodriguez in Conversation with Valerie Steele” held on September 4.

LongIslandWeekly.com (September 1) reported that Distinguished Service Professor Arthur Kopelman, Science and Math, narrated whale watching tours off the Long Island coast.

Valerie Steele, director and chief curator, The Museum at FIT (MFIT), spoke with Departures.com (August 28) about the return of 1980’s fashions. “Sometimes it’s just easier to just steal images from the past,” said Steele.
