FIT in the News – October 12, 2018

MR-Mag.com (October 4) announced the call for applications for FIT Design Entrepreneurs, a free mini-MBA program. Designers will have access to top industry executives, receive guidance creating a formal business plan, and develop the skills they need to successfully run and expand their fashion labels. The application deadline is October 31.

WWD.com (October 8) reported that a memorial service for Ruth Finley, creator of the Fashion Calendar, will be held at FIT on October 13, and that an exhibition of Finley’s Fashion Calendars will be displayed outside the Special Collections and College Archives of the Gladys Marcus Library.

ToyAssociation.org (October 2) interviewed Judy Ellis, chair, Toy Design, who shared insights into the program’s success and longevity and discusses future goals.

SpingWise.com (October 2) reported on AlgiKnit, the yarn-like fiber derived from algae that was developed by FIT students.

RetailConnections.co.uk (October 5) mentioned a partnership with students from FIT and MIT during which they explored and developed clothing concepts using advanced functional materials that incorporate 3D printing or advanced knitting technologies. The initiative took place in collaboration with Advanced Functional Fabrics of America.

Fox 5 News (WNYW, October 3) interviewed Valerie Steele, director and chief curator, The Museum at FIT, about the return of 1980s-style shoulder pads in women’s garments.
