ARTSpeak Talk: Jean Shin

November 14, 2024 at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Jean Shin and an installation view of Shin's artwork

Sculptor Jean Shin, commissioned by the MTA for the Second Avenue subway in NYC, will give a talk on her artwork and her artistic practice.

Artist Jean Shin is known for her sprawling and often public sculptures, which transform accumulations of discarded objects into monuments that interrogate the complex relationship between material consumption, collective identity, and community engagement. Born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in the U.S., Shin works in Brooklyn and in New York’s Hudson Valley. Her work has been exhibited extensively, including solo exhibitions at the MoMA, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art

The 2024–25 ARTSpeak lecture series is presented by the Fine Arts department and has been made possible by a generous grant from Susan Daykin.

This event is free and open to the public
