Chilean Fashion Design: A Brief History of Who We Are

March 19, 2018 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The Office of International Programs sponsors a Lunch and Learn lecture given by Pitti Palacios titled “Chilean Fashion Design: A Brief History of Who We Are.”

Palacios is a visiting professor from Duoc UC, FIT’s partner university in Chile. Her talk is being supported in part by the 100,000 Strong in the Americas grant the partners won together in December. She is here to attend the COIL conference, meet our faculty, and talk to students. She is a designer and an entrepreneur.

As an Industrial designer specializing on textile techniques, Pitti Palacios is inspired by social, ethical and sustainable design. Aware of cultural changes, she has focused her work on preserving antique techniques and handmade work.

With several media appearances and initiatives supported by government, she is a champion of slow fashion in Chile and design entrepreneurship. She participated in the “anti-mall” movement and founded the store Design for Valparaíso.

She was the first Chilean fashion designer to be selected to show her work at the Museo de la Moda in Santiago; in this context she also created a dress for the exhibition Diana: An Inspiration for the New Generation.

She firmly believes that design, innovation, and entrepreneurship are important motors of change to make a positive relevant impact on our society.

This event is for the FIT community only.
