Photo Talks: Abelardo Morell

The Photography Department’s Photo Talks series presents Abelardo Morell, a Boston-based photographer represented by Edwynn Houk Gallery in New York City. Born in Havana, Morell immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1962. He received his undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College in 1977 and an MFA from the Yale University School of Art in 1981.
His publications include a photographic illustration of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (Dutton Children’s Books,1998); A Camera in a Room (Smithsonian Press,1995); A Book of Books and Camera Obscura (Bulfinch Press, 2002 and 2004); and Abelardo Morell (Phaidon Press, 2005).
Morell’s work has been collected and shown in many galleries, institutions, and museums, including The Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and over 70 other museums in the U.S. and abroad.
