SUMMARY:Symposium: International Education in Times of Global Crises: Reflections on Alternatives\, Flexibility\, and Resilience
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, April 6\, 2021\, the Office of International Programs and the Center of Excellence in Teaching are hosting a faculty-initiated symposium titled “International Education in Times of Global Crises: Reflections on Alternatives\, Flexibility\, and Resilience.” The global pandemic in 2020-2021 has left an enormous impact on all areas of education\, including international education. In the area of international education\, living and studying in another country became complicated and eventually prohibited after the COVID-19 outbreak. \nProfessor Praveen Chaudhry\, Social Sciences\, and Associate Professor Kyunghee Pyun\, History of Art\, cordially invite those concerned about the future of international education in times of global crises. They worked with the Office of International Programs and the Center for Excellence in Teaching to organize this virtual symposium as an opportunity to discuss international education under the pandemic. Experts have been invited to talk about confronting the pandemic’s negative impacts on international education through globalizing the curriculum\, virtual international exchange\, refugee education\, and educating people in crises. \nThe speakers include: \n\nMary Lou Forward\, director of SUNY COIL Center\nGianMario Besana\, associate provost at DePaul University in Chicago\nCeline Merheb\, senior lecturer at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon\nClare Overmann\, head of Higher Education Initiatives and External Affairs at Institute of International Education\nDaniel Obst\, president and CEO at AFS Intercultural Programs\n\nThis virtual event is free and open to the public; REGISTER HERE BY APRIL 5.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Bamboo Canvas: Innovative Instruction for a Globalized Classroom
DESCRIPTION:This regional conference\, Beyond the Bamboo Canvas: Instructional Innovation for a Globalized Classroom\, is the culmination of a 2017–18 Instructional Technology Grant\, funded by the State University of New York. (SUNY-IITG). Awarded to Assistant Professor Kyunghee Pyun\, History of Art\, and Professor Elaine Maldonado\, director of Faculty Development and Center for Excellence in Teaching\, the project seeks to globalize the classroom with emerging technologies and the integration of Asian art and craft into the general curriculum. Click here to learn more about the project. \nKeynotes will be delivered by Allan Goodman\, President and Chief Executive Officer\, Institute of International Education\, and J. Keith Wilson\, associate director and curator of Chinese Art\, Freer-Sackler Galleries at the Smithsonian Museum. Experts in museum education\, instructional design\, international education\, and heritage preservation will conduct workshops that include demonstrations by Asian craft makers. \nThe mission of Bamboo Canvas is to present an interactive platform of video links\, podcasts\, and online lectures as a database explaining art-making techniques of Asian art and design for educational institutions and global audiences and to highlight artistic contributions and intellectual achievements of Asian art and culture.
