Unraveled was selected for FIT’s 2024 Common Read. \nThe book\, which was longlisted for the FT/McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award\, offers readers insights into the supply chain. It is described by the publisher as “a groundbreaking chronicle of the birth–and death–of a pair of jeans\, that exposes the fractures in our global supply chains\, and our relationships to each other\, ourselves\, and the planet.” Touching on issues related to economics\, labor\, fashion\, sustainability\, and the environment\, this book has relevance to all of the creative industries. \nThis event will begin at 5 pm with a book signing\, followed by a conversation with Bédat at 5:30\, and then a networking reception. \nThis event is part of FIT’s Sustainability Awareness Week\, a time when we invite our community to learn about recent innovations from industry leaders\, FIT students\, faculty\, staff\, and alumni through workshops\, panels\, tours\, and interactive programs about the environmental\, economic\, and social aspects of sustainability. Learn about the SDGs and FIT’s sustainability initiatives. Have fun with games and giveaways\, a raffle with prizes\, a community dye bath demonstration\, and a vintage clothing swap with FIT’s Style Shop. Watch the movie The True Cost (2015) in the cafeteria. \nPartners and sponsors include Annie’s Blue Ribbon General Store\, Incredible Eats\, Greenpeace\, Free Store Project\, Antoinette Brooklyn\, Cotton Incorporated\, Package Free\, and the FIT Style Shop. \nThis event\, except the film screening\, is free and open to the public; FIT IDs are required to access the FIT cafeteria.

DESCRIPTION:This December 6\, at 1 pm\, the FIT community is invited to learn about and apply for opportunities in sustainability and campuswide sustainability efforts. These opportunities include sustainability grants\, the International Biodesign Challenge\, the Genspace Scholars program\, and research opportunities that are available for students\, faculty\, and staff. \nThis event will feature a discussion with Associate Professor of Photography and Principal Investigator Keith Ellenbogen and Student Fellows about the One Atmosphere 33 Environmental Image and Storytelling Applied Arts Research Lab at FIT. This new lab is aimed at engaging students to address real-world environmental problems.
