SUMMARY:Feminism and the Art of Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:In an event co-hosted by the Presidential Scholars Program\, ARTSpeak\, and the Department of English and Communication Studies\, two creative artists—one literary\, one visual—will present their work and discuss the ways in which women’s collaborative art\, and their work in particular\, fits within the feminist tradition. Denise Duhamel\, an acclaimed poet and author of collaborative writing\, and Michelle Weinberg\, a painter and creative director\, are experienced educators invested in empowering women of all generations in their creative work. Collaborative work created by Michelle Weinberg and Denise Duhamel is currently on exhibit in the D6 Gallery\, on the sixth floor of the Pomerantz Center\, March 14–27. \nFaculty members Rachel Baum\, History of Art\, and Amy Lemmon\, English and Communication Studies\, will moderate. \nUPDATE: Denise Duhamel will no longer be able to attend this event. Michelle Weinberg will present their collaborative work and give a talk about the feminist perspective\, followed by a Q&A. \nThis event is for the FIT community only.

They called their group The Secret Trio because they focus on music that musicians played just for themselves. The live orchestra will feature Kaoru Hinata on flute and piccolo\, David Valbuena on clarinet and bass clarinet\, John Lake on trumpet on flugelhorn\, Nicole Brancato\, Jai Jeffryes on piano\, Max Maples on percussion\, Oren Fader on guitar\, Lynn Bechtold\, Hajnal Pivnick on violin\, Hannah Levinson on viola\, Christine Kim\, Jisoo Ok on cello\, Lisa Maree Dowling on bass\, and Charles Coleman as conductor. \nBorn and raised in Manhattan\, Cooper was educated at Columbia and Princeton universities\, as well as the Conservatoire de Nice and Fontainebleau. The recipient of many awards\, accolades\, and commissions\, he has also performed in many of the world’s top concert halls. \nThis event is sponsored by the Presidential Scholars program and the School of Liberal Arts.
