FIT in the News – July 10

A press release distributed on PR Newswire throughout Asia (June 15) announced the findings of FIT’s Master of Professional Studies program in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing and Management capstone, The Future of Brands, held on June 13, and sponsored by Shiseido Americas. The release received more than 170 pickups, including Japan.CNet.com, PRW.KyodoNews.jp, Asahi.com, OkinawaTimes.co.jp, China.com, and ChinaSo.com. GCIMagazine.com (June 22), AListDaily.com (June 23), and Happi.com (June 26) also reported on the capstone findings.

Vision Monday (June 19) covered the 20th annual FIT Next Generation Awards, hosted by the Accessories Council with sponsorship from the eyewear design company Tura Inc. Accessories Design students Alfeya Valrina and Christina Geslak were announced as the winners in the optical category.

The Herald News (June 17) sought comment from Joan Volpe, managing coordinator, Center for Continuing and Professional Studies, about challenges, including proposed tariffs and store closings, that are affecting the fashion industry. “We need to stop weeping and gnashing our teeth and move forward,” she said. “We will always wear clothes.”

WCBS News Radio 88 (June 23) spoke with Mark-Evan Blackman, assistant professor, Menswear, about the trend of wearing black socks with shorts.

CTNews.com (July 1) reported that June Burns Bové, adjunct assistant professor, Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory, Museum Practice, will present “What to Wear? How the Bride Decides,” a talk on the fashion and social history of the wedding dress, at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Connecticut on July 16.

Colleen Hill, curator, Costume and Accessories, The Museum at FIT (MFIT), spoke to USA Today (July 5) and USAToday.com (July 6) for an article on the fact that far fewer women wear slips. Pickups include The Cincinnati Inquirer, The Austin American-Statesman, and The Dayton Daily News (all July 5).
