FIT in the News – March 19, 2019

A press release distributed via PR Newswire (March 1) announced that FIT was included—for the first time ever—in the list of U.S. colleges and universities that produced the highest number of 2018–2019 Fulbright U.S. Scholars. Joseph Antee, associate professor, Fashion Business Management, and Brenda Cowan, associate professor and associate chair, Exhibition and Experience Design, were awarded Fulbright Specialist Grants; Deirdre Sato, dean for International Education, has been awarded a Fulbright International Education Administrator Seminar Award to travel to India. The release received dozens of pickups, including ThePilotNews.com, AZCentral.com, Post-Gazette.com, FashionNetwork.com, and dozens of affiliate stations of CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox.

FootwearNews.com (March 8) and FootwearPlusMagazine.com (March 11) both reported that the Two Ten Footwear Foundation will partner with FIT to provide a series of scholarships for students seeking careers in the shoe industry. The scholarships will benefit a range of students, from freshmen to professionals seeking continuing education. The $25,000 per academic year scholarships will be offered through the Center for Continuing and Professional Studies.

The Chronicle of Higher Education (March issue) reported that Amy Garawitz had been named director of alumni engagement at FIT.

Medium.com (February 27) turned to C.J. Yeh, assistant chair, Advertising and Digital Design, for an article on Apple’s notification bubbles.

Blogarama.com and TheQueenofStyle.com (both February 28), listed Exhibiting Fashion, the academic symposium held by The Museum at FIT (MFIT) on March 8. The symposium explored the history of fashion curating, the different ways fashion is displayed in museum settings, and how national and regional identities influence fashion exhibitions. Fortune (March issue) turned to Emma McClendon, associate curator of costume, The Museum at FIT (MFIT), for an article on women’s leather jackets.
