Fashionable Muses Salon

February 7, 2017 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Fashionable Muses

This concert is a collaboration of FIT students and faculty and Composers Now, a New York-based nonprofit that champions the work of living composers. There are six composers, 11 musicians, 19 visual arts students from FIT (undergraduate, graduate, and an alumnus) from Illustration, Fine Arts, Visual Presentation and Exhibition Design, Film and Media, and Photography, six student poets, as well as 12 FIT Liberal Arts and Art and Design faculty members collaborating on this event.

Each piece from the six composers will have two (one is English and another in a different language) student or faculty poems read before and/or directly following the performance of the corresponding musical composition. As the music is performed live, the visual art students’ visual responses to the music will be projected onto three walls of the Great Hall on large screens.

Directly after the music performances, all of the poets, artists, and composers will engage in a dialogue with the audience about the importance of art in our lives today. This discussion will be for approximately 20 minutes and will be moderated by Composers Now founder, composer, and conductor Tania Leon.

Funded in part by a SUNY Explorations in Diversity and Academic Excellence Grant awarded to FIT Counseling Director Susan Breton.

This event is free and open to the public, however, tickets will be required—REGISTER HERE.
