Making Your Breaks in Fine Jewelry: Digital Edition

November 13 at 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

gold earrings with diamonds

Your first step into the business of fine jewelry may be as simple as designing your engagement ring, while others have a long held dream of a place in the world of couture jewelry as a successful designer or gallerist. Discover how the playing field has changed in the fine jewelry business where the road to success has been re-routed in the age of digital media.

Presenting success stories and cautionary tales, a panel of distinguished industry personalities with varied backgrounds (who catapulted into the jewelry industry from the outside) include diamantaire Elisabeth Austin, creative director of DiamondRunway.com; Melissa Dusenberry, creator of AllTheBrilliants.com; couture jewelry designer Wendy Brandes; and trailblazing digital gallerist Catherine Cason. All panel members discuss the process and importance of nurturing an audience as a precursor to success in the digital era.

Special guest Kim Nelson, chair of the Jewelry Design department at FIT, weighs in on design and product development using both traditional and digital media and how the future of fine jewelry contains opportunities for new creatives. A question-and-answer session will wrap up the presentation.

This event is part of NYC Jewelry Week, New York City’s first and only week dedicated to promoting the world of jewelry through educational and innovative NYC-focused programming. Its inaugural year of programming takes place from November 12 to 18, 2018. NYCJW features groundbreaking exhibitions, educational lectures, explorative workshops, exclusive tours, and unique collaborations with the top businesses, brands, individual jewelers, artists, and designers throughout NYC.

Making Your Breaks in Fine Jewelry: Digital Edition is presented by Diamond Runway.
