Spotlight: Experts Talk [the Age of AI in] Writing and Speaking Pedagogy

Spotlight is an annual series highlighting faculty from across the college who have developed innovative writing and speaking activities and assignments to advance literacy and language learning, discipline-specific communication skills, and culturally responsive communication. Professors Sarah Blazer, Writing & Speaking Studio, and Katelyn Burton Prager, English and Communication Studies, moderate.

This fall’s symposium responds to the rapid rise of AI text generation tools and their impact on student learning through written and oral modalities.

Experts Talk [the age of AI] in Writing and Speaking Pedagogy will feature:

  • Bernard Dillard, Science and Math, on “Mitigating AI Woes in Technical Writing”
  • Sonja Chapman, International Trade and Marketing, on “Leveraging AI Language Models to Develop Effective Presentation Outlines”
  • Amy Werbel, History of Art, on “Making It Complicated—and Personal”

With faculty respondents:

  • Evie Joselow, Art Market Studies
  • Alex Nagel, History of Art
  • Nancy Hightower, English and Communication Studies

Another Spotlight session will be held on October 26, from 12:30–2 pm, in the Writing and Speaking Studio, Room C612.
