First-Ever FullBeauty Award Announced

JINWOO HONG
From engineering garments for veterans to bringing about inclusiveness in the modeling industry, FIT students and alumni are leading the charge in making fashion for everyone. Most recently, FIT teamed up with FullBeauty.com, an online retailer, to celebrate full-figured fashion.

Jinwoo Hong, Fashion Design ’17, won the first-ever FullBeauty Award, which “aims to expand the definition of clothing design and beauty beyond a one-size ideal,” according to the company. Hong’s collection—sophisticated and sexy, with a tailored look—was the top pick among the 31 fifth-semester Fashion Design students who participated. The judges included Zahir Babvani, Fashion Design ’96, vice president of design for FullBeauty Brands, and FullBeauty spokesperson Meghan Trainor, a singer/songwriter whose number-one single “All About That Bass” sends an empowering message of body acceptance. Hong wins $2,500, a paid internship with FullBeauty Brands, and a profile in FullBeauty magazine.

Fellow FIT students Wei Lin and Aleksandra Gosieski placed second and third, respectively, and their designs can be seen below.
