As part of ARTSpeak, a collaboration of the Fine Arts and History of Art departments sponsoring artists’ studio visits and lectures, Oliver Herring will discuss his work. Herring is a Brooklyn-based artist working with sculpture, video, and performance. He received a BFA from the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art at the University of Oxford, and an MFA from Hunter College. In the 1990s, Herring became known his for hand-knit Mylar and tape sculptures and has since moved into video and performance work involving chance and unpredictable encounters with strangers. His work has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, and the Whitney Museum of Art in New York City, as well as the Kyoto Art Center in Japan among many other venues around the world.
