As part of the Women Behind the Lens film series, sponsored by the Film and Media program and the Student-Faculty Corporation, director Soon-Mi Yoo will present her film Songs From the North, which won the prestigious Golden Leopard for Best First Feature at the 2014 Locarno Film Festival. Featuring footage from Yoo’s visits to North Korea interwoven with popular cinema and archival footage, the film looks closely and objectively at a country that challenges our fundamental assumptions about the human condition, love, and patriotism. A Q&A with the director will follow the screening.
This event is open to the public.
