FIT Trans Talk is a moderated panel discussion on gender identity— from its origins and history, to controversies, misconceptions, and relations to such institutions as religion, government, and education. The discussion seeks to educate openly and honestly through the lens of the panelists’ personal and professional experiences. The event will touch on controversial topics such as health care, religion, and politics as they relate to gender identity, with the goal of promoting genuine understanding and objective knowledge of the subject. Senior Resident Assistants and Residential Life Educational Programming Coordinators Carli Braithwaite and Kathrin Lewis will moderate the discussion with the following panelists:
• Shakina Nayfack, transgender actress and singer
• Kita Updike, FIT alum; transgender model and stylist
• Terry Ginder, former FIT Counseling Center director; FIT Care Team
• Roberta Degnore, FIT faculty member; writer; psychologist
• Tim Duffy, president of Gay Officers Action League; New York Police Departmen LGBTQ liaison to the police commissioner
• a medical representative from Callen-Lorde Community Health Center
