Niche is a research site that blends student opinion reviews with hard data from IPEDS, the Common Data Set, etc. Unlike other college rankings, the Niche Best Colleges ranking is an assessment of more than 1,100 U.S. colleges based on statistics and student reviews. Founded in 2002 by Carnegie Mellon University students as CollegeProwler.com, the site also provides comprehensive profiles of schools, including student comments. Niche states that nearly 50 percent of all college-bound high school seniors use the product.

The Top Public Universities ranking from Niche.com provides a comprehensive assessment of the total quality of the education and experience provided by each college.
