International Women’s Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

Wiki ton-1

Tuesday, March 8, 11 am-5 pm
Gladys Marcus Library Computer Lab, Room E509

Only 8.5 percent of Wikipedia’s contributors are female, and the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon seeks to “edit” the statistic. Volunteer editors will make entries and edits together, adding and improving information on Wikipedia, to improve the unequal representation of women on the site, which is the seventh most viewed website in the world. Together with the Women and Technology: Symposium that took place on March 3, this event is designed to empower female students to engage with technology through talks by successful female technologists and with a hands-on activity that affirms their ability to work with technology and to become part of the conversation in an empowering and positive way.

The Wikipedia Edit-a-thon is open to all FIT students, staff, and faculty, of all gender identities and expressions. Snacks and refreshments will be provided to participants. No registration is necessary, but RSVP here so that organizers can gauge attendance.

This event is made possible through a President’s Diversity Fund Grant, with special thanks to the Information Technology Department and the members of the Love Your Library planning committee of the Gladys Marcus Library.
