Film Screening: Miss Representation

Miss Representation

Wednesday, March 9, 8 pm
FIT Dining Hall

Miss Representation, a documentary that challenges the media for their contribution to the stereotyping of women, will be screened as part of Women’s History Month. The film, directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, was made to inspire and motivate viewers to be agents of change.

Following the film, an interactive discussion will be led by Lucy Collins Payne, assistant professor of Social Sciences. Collins Payne teaches ethics, with a special interest in fashion ethics and feminist issues. Her research interests relate to questions of clothing and identity, especially in connection to consumerism and sustainability. Her work has been published in the Wall Street Journal, The Philosopher’s Magazine, Fashion Theory, Fashion Projects, Vestoj, and Worn Through. She has spoken at several international conferences, most recently at the Pioneer Mode Conference  in New York City this past fall.

This event is open to the FIT community.
