Annual Holocaust Commemoration Lecture and Events

Lecture:
Thursday, April 7, 1-2 pm
Pomerantz Center, Room D207

As part of FIT’s Holocaust Remembrance Day events, Dr. Rochelle Saidel, founder and executive director of the Remember the Women Institute, will give a lecture titled “Sexual Violence During the Holocaust.” The issue of rape and sexual abuse has remained the last frontier for inclusion in women’s stories in the Holocaust narrative. Saidel will provide background and examples of how women’s Holocaust experiences included sexual violence of various types and in a number of settings. During the Holocaust, as in earlier and more recent genocides, women were targeted for gendered sexual violation.

Reading of the Names of Holocaust Victims:
Thursday, April 7, 9 am-1 pm and 2-5 pm
FIT Dining Hall

FIT’s Holocaust Commemoration Committee hosts a reading of names from among the six million victims, giving a face to the forgotten victims whose lives were cut short by genocide. Community members join the event by volunteering to read, and those who would like to participate are encouraged to bring names of family members or friends to read along with the prepared list of names.
