Urban Studio Show on View at South Street Seaport

How We Live” Panel Discussion: September 28, 3:30-5:30pm

August 12–September 30, 2016
117 Beekman Street, Seaport Culture District
Gallery Hours: Wednesday–Friday, noon–7 pm/Saturday and Sunday, 11 am–6 pm

Urban Studio, an artist collective of students and alumni from the Fine Arts Department, is participating in an exhibition titled #wip, on view at the Seaport Culture District’s 117 Beekman Street Gallery through September 30. #wip is a popular Instagram hashtag used by artists that means “work in progress.” As social media influences our culture, sharing on these platforms becomes an important part of the creative act.  As artists invest time experimenting with materials and content one idea leads to the next. The public documentation of the various stages of work permits an intimate view of moments that were traditionally private.

While the exhibition is on display, participating artists continually upload images of their current work in progress to the Instagram account @fineartsfit, with the hashtag #wip. The feed is projected in the gallery space at South Street Seaport, serving as a constantly changing visual component. The artwork on display ranges from drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and painting to video installation and fiber art.

A reception will be held Thursday, September 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the gallery.

Participating artists: Omer Abramson, Tara Brady, Taylor Cardosa, Madeleine Dietrich, Jovana Djuric, Slavko Djuric, Anya Galtsova, Alyssa Giammona, Lauren Goldstein, Kathleen Granados, Samantha Hansen, Cassandra Holden, Amanda Ioco, Paul Japaz, Margaret Koenig, Natalia Kovtoun, Luis Martin, Tayyeb Munawar, Patricia Myers, Regina Ruff, Britta Siddell, AJ Springer, Marcin Szprengiel, Maria Luisa Tamara DeSantis, Lobsang Tsewang, Vivian Valentin, Eddy Valerio, and Marcin Wlodarczyk
