On September 7, the Couture Council of The Museum at FIT hosted its annual luncheon honoring Akris creative director Albert Kriemler with the 2016 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion. Linda Fargo, senior vice president for Fashion and Store Presentation director at Bergdorf Goodman, presented the award to Kriemler, who was selected for his commitment to outstanding craftsmanship and his dedication to creating well-tailored, wearable pieces that blend luxury with functionality.
“When the Couture Council decided that I would receive this award ― following in the footsteps of Alber Elbaz, Dries van Noten, Karl Lagerfeld, Oscar de la Renta and Valentino ― I felt deeply honored, immensely grateful, and highly energized,” Kriemler said.
The annual luncheon was held at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center and has become the tradition that heralds the arrival of Fall Fashion Week in New York.
Notable attendees at the event included Veronica Webb, Martha Stewart, Judith Ripka, Hamish Bowles, Joe Zee, Yaz Hernández, Liz Peek, Audrey Gruss, Lisa Klein, Dr. Joyce F. Brown, and more.
The Couture Council is a philanthropic membership group that helps support the exhibitions and programs of The Museum at FIT. All proceeds benefit the museum.
