The next time you get a Starbucks brew in a red holiday cup, check out the design. If it’s got Christmas- tree lights swirling around the familiar green logo, you’re holding the work of New York–based artist Maria Lauren Lambiris, Illustration BFA ’13.
Lambiris’s was one of 13 designs chosen from over 1,200 submissions from 13 countries. She loves creating bold, graphic patterns and found inspiration for the image right in her home: “When I looked at my tree I thought about how beautiful the lights were.” On Christmas Eve 2015, she uploaded a photo of her design onto her Instagram account and tagged Starbucks. The company announced the winners last month.
Lambiris does portrait commissions for clients as well as graphic design, photography, and illustration. She has a day job at RTM Business Group and her Instagram account remains lively.
