Tamara Jerardo Mayne, Communication Design ’11, created the Brooklyn Candle Studio in 2013 after her homemade candles (and their soothing minimalist packaging) inspired a frenzy on Etsy. Now the candles are produces in Sunset Park by a seven person team and sold in more than 300 stores, including West Elem, Urban Outfitters, Lou & Grey, and Lululemon. One reason for her success: It’s hard to find statement candles at an affordable price.
