Chief Diversity Officer Ron Milon participated in the creation of the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Insider/Outsider publication earlier this year. The briefing was an examination of inclusion and diversity in the American fashion industry, citing statistics on age, gender, race/ethnicity, and sexual orientation in the field, and quoting many business and design leaders. In the paper, Milon describes FIT’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan and its three major goals: “ensure effective and appropriate representation of New York’s diverse populations; optimize the personal, academic and professional potential of all members of the FIT community and their sense of inclusion at FIT; and create a diversity, equity and inclusion management system within FIT.”
The Insider/Outsider briefing was the result of a conference held with PVH Corp. in which industry professionals discussed issues the industry is facing, looked for actionable ways to address them, and forged a path for meaningful and long-lasting change.
