In June, Ann Coppinger, senior conservator at The Museum at FIT, presented a paper at the 2019 International Council of Museums’ Committee for Conservation (ICOM-CC) Textiles Working Group Interim Meeting, held at the prestigious Abegg-Stiftung, an internationally renowned textile conservation center located in Riggisberg, Switzerland. The theme of the meeting was “A Challenging Dimension: The Conservation and Research of Costume and Accessories.”
The papers presented innovative treatments, original research, reflective practice, and/or transdisciplinary working methods and collaboration to an international contingent of conservators and collection caretakers who work exclusively with costume collections. Coppinger’s presentation described the most recent activities of the museum’s conservation department, including the renovation of the storage facilities.
