Mildor Chevalier

Mildor Chevalier, Illustration MFA ’16, is a fine art painter who tackles issues of identity and human rights, using figures and fragments, usually painted in acrylic, to assemble a narrative. He grew up in Haiti and spent 10 years in the Dominican Republic before moving to New York, and though he does find inspiration in Haiti, a country that emerged from slavery and rejected colonization, he resists being pigeonholed. “I’m a painter first and Haitian second.”
