Fashion During the Pandemic
Valerie Steele, director and chief curator, The Museum at FIT, on how past historical events have affected the fashion industry: “In the Depression, we saw a lot of people who couldn’t afford to buy a new dress. And a lot of dressmakers went out of business. We may see something of the same thing now.”
An Increase in Seasonal Workers
Shelley Kohan, associate professor of Fashion Business Management, discussed how, with online shopping expected to increase during the upcoming holiday season due to the pandemic, retailers were preparing to hire additional seasonal workers: “This year we will probably see more support positions then we have ever seen in the past.”
