Yuniya (Yuni) Kawamura, professor of Sociology, contributed an article on New York’s sneaker culture, its evolution, and its future to a Sunday edition of the Asahi Shimbun, a major Japanese newspaper with a daily circulation of 4.5 million copies.
In the May 22 article, Kawamura discusses how sneaker culture spread from the Bronx to become a mainstay of fashion; addresses the role of Instagram in popularizing sneaker styles; and notes the increased visibility of women in sneaker culture.
