Runway of Dreams, which supports the movement for disability inclusion in the fashion and beauty industries by raising awareness and inspiring change, held its Fashion Revolution 2024 Fashion Show in September, and unveiled “Next Gen,” an exciting addition to this year’s 10th-anniversary event at Powerhouse Arts in Brooklyn. For this groundbreaking project, six Fashion Design alumni who graduated with a specialization in Intimate Apparel collaborated with models with varying disabilities to create runway-ready looks that address specific dressing challenges across three categories: intimates, athleisure, and pajamas.
The alumni were tasked with ensuring that the looks were both functional and stylish, taking into consideration the models’ comfort and mobility. The final pieces were presented as the grand finale of the Runway of Dreams 2024 fashion show. With its focus on inclusivity and creativity, the Runway of Dreams Fashion Show is an extraordinary event that celebrates diversity and beauty in all forms.
FIT is the first college that Runway of Dreams has partnered with for their show during New York Fashion Week.
This program, made possible from the financial support of HSBC and VS&Co., was attended by Foundation Board Member Douglas Hand and Troy Richards, dean of the FIT School of Art and Design, among other guests.
“What I saw at Runway of Dreams were people who were fabulous and empowered, who wanted to show off, and because of the freedom and the confidence that the designs our students provided them, they felt sexy and alive and free, and it was obvious that they appreciated the work of our students,” said Richards. “In the School of Art and Design we’ve put a focus on adaptive and universal design and on promoting projects around adaptive and universal design. We have a long-term commitment to this field and want to have a real impact here.”
