José Blanco Publishes Textbook Contextualizing Contemporary Global Fashion History

cover of Global Perspectives bookGlobal Perspectives: Dress and Fashion in the 20th and 21st Centuries, a textbook by José Blanco, associate professor of History of Art, was published by Bloomsbury’s Fairchild imprint in February. According to the publisher, the book “frames the history of modern and contemporary dress and fashion in a global and diverse context, broadening the traditional dominance placed on European and American (‘The West’) design by including examples from every continent.”

Blanco has experience teaching a variety of courses in the fashion and dress studies field including History of Dress and Fashion, History of World Textiles, Historic Collection Management, Museum Issues in Historic Clothing and Textiles, and Fashion Theory. His research focuses on dress and popular culture in the second half of the 20th century, with an emphasis on men’s fashion and on fashion and visual culture in Latin America and the Latinx diaspora.
