The New York Post turned to Melissa Marra-Alvarez, a curator at The Museum at FIT who worked on its 2019 exhibition Minimalism/Maximalism, for comment on New Yorkers’ recent preference for the maximalist end of the design spectrum. “Maximalism today, this idea of maximalist romanticism, it’s maybe a form of fantasy and escape,” Marra-Alvarez said.
