Read moreFor Bikini Day, July 5, CBS News Miami interviewed The Museum at FIT’s chief curator Valerie Steele on the history of the swimwear. Dr. Steele noted that the shift toward showing a little more skin began in the early 20th century, while the bikini really took off in the ’60s and ’70s. Now, she said, “Swimwear for most people is really about how they feel in it and how they feel they look in it.”
