English and Communication Studies Faculty Member Participates in Conference in Los Angeles

Amy Lemmon participated in two events at the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) Conference in Los Angeles, which took place March 31-April 2. She chaired the annual meeting of the AWP Art School Writing Faculty Caucus, where faculty members discuss pedagogy, programming, administration, and best practices particular to art school writing classes and programs. Lemmon was elected president of the caucus for a two-year term.

Lemmon was also on a panel titled, “We Don’t String Popcorn Necklaces Here: Brain Science and Assessment Beyond Craft,” with Laura Valeri and Brendan Constantine. Lemmon shared her experiences incorporating the latest research from neuroscience into her honors course, Creative Imagination: Theory and Process, and into her writing courses.

A handout of resources from all three presenters is available on Google Docs here. For more information, contact Amy Lemmon, 75342.
