Illustrations by Steven Stipelman, associate professor of Fashion Design–Art and a graduate of FIT, appeared on the cover and four inside pages of the December 31, 2014 issue of WWD, illustrating a piece by executive editor Bridget Foley on “tabletop dressing,” designs that feature a garment’s bodice, or, as Foley writes, “…a bodice that delivers visual interest while the lady sits.” Stipelman illustrated designs by Valentino, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Christian Dior, Osman, Alexander Wang, Chanel, Badgley Mischka, and Lela Rose.
Stipelman was a staff illustrator for Women’s Wear Daily from 1964 until 1991, when the newspaper closed its art department in favor of photography. He has taught at FIT since 1993; he currently teaches Fashion Art and Design classes and Fashion Portfolio.
