Christie Shin and C.J. Yeh, Communication Design, both gave presentations at the CAA Annual Conference in late February in Los Angeles. With 13,000 members worldwide, CAA (College Art Association) is one of the largest and most respected professional organizations for makers and interpreters of visual art and visual culture. Shin’s presentation, “Rethink Typography Education for Digital Content Design,” introduces the best typographic design projects from the newly developed courses at FIT, including Kinetic Typography, Typography for Digital Content Design, Typography for Digital Product Design, and Content Centric App Design.
Yeh’s presentation introduced the pedagogy of guided experiential learning (GEL) and examined the creative outcomes from the NFLxFIT guided experiential learning workshops. GEL is a new teaching methodology developed by the Communication Design Pathways department’s Creative Technology and Design program that he and Shin oversee.
