Jeffrey Silberman Discusses Textile Development Abroad

Last fall, Jeffrey Silberman, chair, Textile Development and Marketing, moderated a panel on e-commerce at Egytex2018, a textile and apparel sourcing trade show in Cairo. The discussion was titled “200 Years of Egyptian Cotton,” and panelists included TDM advisory board members Amanda Ibrahim, chief of staff for Google’s Global Technical Partners, and Nancy Zhang, head of New York partnerships at Border X Lab, a Palo Alto firm that creates fashion partnerships in China.

Silberman was also a keynote speaker at the first World Textile and Apparel Education Conference held by the China National Textile and Apparel Council and the China Textile and Apparel Education Society at Donghua University in Shanghai in December. His talk, “FIT Denim: Trends in Experiential Textile Education,” was presented to 127 colleges and universities from 26 countries.

Also while in China, the TDM chair also visited and lectured at Zhejiang Science and Textile University (ZSTU). His talk,”Farm to Fashion: Looking for Niche Markets for Cellulose Fibers in Small-Scale Agriculture,” was delivered to the students and faculty of the ZSTU School of Fashion. The school wrote an article about his visit on their site; use Google translate to read the text in English.
