A press release distributed by Agence Option Finance (February 5) announced a partnership between FIT and Chargeurs, a global manufacturing and services group. The partnership will consist of three parts: the sponsorship of a design competition; the development of a capsule collection of luxury accessories made from eco-friendly wool; and the visual design of Paris, Capital of Fashion, an exhibition opening at The Museum at FIT (MFIT) in September. The release received dozens of pickups, including LeFigaro.com.
WWD.com (February 5), WWD, and TheDailyBeast.com (both February 6) reported on an exhibition held in the new Art and Design Gallery, located in the Pomerantz Center, of the fall 2019 collection by DYNE, a clothing line designed by FIT alumnus Christopher Bevans, as part of New York Men’s Fashion Week.
Forbes.com (January 30) spoke with Philips McCarty, vice president for Advancement and executive director of the FIT Foundation, who answered the question, “What will 2019 hold for corporate social impact programs?”
The podcast Every Little Thing (January 28) and Hyperallergic.com (February 5) spoke with Kam Mak, assistant chair, Illustration, as he looks back at all 12 of the postage stamp designs he created for the USPS Lunar New Year series.
CNBC.com (February 7) spoke with Shawn Grain Carter, associate professor, Fashion Business Management, for a segment on the retailer Victoria’s Secret. RetailDive.com (February 11) spoke with Carter about inclusive sizing.
ArchPaper.com (January 31) reported that in commemoration of the Triangle Shirtwaist fire, a series of talks and events will be held on March 16 and 17 by the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition and FIT. One event will collectively create a ribbon made from individual pieces of fabric brought by participants. The ribbon will be used as the main element of a memorial to be constructed at the site of the tragedy.
Valerie Steele, director and chief curator, MFIT, helped put some current footwear in historical context for New York Magazine (February 17).
