Every day in New York, adults and children seek assistance from hospitals and rape crisis centers and domestic violence shelters. Often they come in with little more than the clothes they are wearing. Money that these organizations spend on personal care items cannot be spent on other crucial needs.
SUNY’s Got Your Back provides the opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and community members from across the state to create comfort kits for victims and survivors of violence, and to learn methods of preventing and responding to violence, as together we work to build a New York where these bags are no longer needed.
FIT will be preparing comfort kits from 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday, April 25, in the Dubinsky Center Dining Hall, and volunteers are needed. All supplies are provided; only your time is necessary. There will be speakers and performances by FIT groups throughout the day, and Zeke Thomas will be deejaying for a portion of the event. All volunteers will be given wristbands to attend the evening event featuring Thomas in the Haft Theater (click here for more info). To volunteer, please sign up here: tinyurl.com/
This event is part of FIT’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities. Find out more at fitnyc.edu/safety/saae.
