On June 24, Sonja Chapman, International Trade and Marketing, testified at the public hearings held by the United States Trade Representative regarding the fourth tranche of proposed tariffs for goods originating in China. The hearings were held at the International Trade Commission in Washington D.C.
Chapman discussed the challenges that importers of infants and children’s apparel will face should a new round of tariffs be instituted against these products. Chapman’s testimony centered on the price sensitivity of children’s wear, categories of apparel that China dominates, and how that can limit sourcing choices for apparel importers. She discussed the potential harm to consumers in the form of rising prices.
